Background
Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama. Manga is an art form consisting of comics and print cartoons in a style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. A series of comics began was published between 1984 and 1995, then 42 volumes were later produced from the 519 individual chapters. These were the basis of three anime series produced by Toei Animation: Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. The story line follows the adventures of Son Goku from his childhood through adulthood as he trains in martial arts. He explores the world in search of the seven mystical objects known as the Dragon Balls. The Dragon Balls can summon a wish-granting dragon.
